For Irish Post-Primary Schools
An SPHE wellbeing resource for calm, age-appropriate classroom reflection.
EZ Wellbeing offers a screen-free classroom activity that teachers can select and adapt within their own planning. Detailed colouring creates an accessible starting point, while short prompts can support discussion about thoughts, feelings, choices and everyday wellbeing.
Clear answer
Where can the book fit within SPHE?
The updated Junior Cycle SPHE course includes emotional wellbeing and is a core pillar of the wider Wellbeing programme. A colouring page may complement teacher-led learning, reflection or consolidation, but it is not a complete lesson plan, an official curriculum resource or a substitute for the school’s approved programme.
Why people choose it
A practical resource with room for individual choice.
Easy entry point
Students can begin with a concrete creative task before a teacher invites optional personal or group reflection.
Screen-free format
Printed A4 pages create a change from devices and can be prepared for tutor or classroom use.
Flexible planning
Teachers can choose one prompt to suit a learning intention rather than following the book in sequence.
01 · Practical guidance
Connect a page to a clear learning purpose
A resource is most useful when the teacher knows why it is being used. A page might introduce the language of thoughts and feelings, provide quiet reflection after discussion or help students consider one everyday coping choice. Colouring without a clear place in the lesson can still be enjoyable, but it should not be described as curriculum delivery by itself.
The 2023 Junior Cycle SPHE specification includes strands such as Understanding Myself and Others, Making Healthy Choices, Relationship and Sexuality, and Emotional Wellbeing. Teachers should select only pages that suit the relevant learning outcome, school context, student age and stage, and current guidance.
- Begin with a stated learning intention
- Preview every prompt before class
- Make personal disclosure optional
- Use normal school safeguarding and support procedures
02 · Practical guidance
Support the six Junior Cycle wellbeing indicators carefully
The Junior Cycle Wellbeing indicators are Active, Responsible, Connected, Resilient, Respected and Aware. A colouring activity may create opportunities to discuss awareness, personal choice, respectful participation or a balanced response to stress. Those links should be made through thoughtful teaching rather than printed as claims that one activity develops every indicator.
Students can be offered different ways to engage: colour quietly, consider a prompt privately, discuss in pairs or contribute a general example. Choice protects dignity and recognises that wellbeing education should not require students to reveal sensitive personal information.
Inside the resource
One design, one prompt and space to use both your way.
Every page combines detailed artwork with a concise prompt connected to thoughts, feelings, behaviours, perspective or everyday wellbeing. The prompts are invitations rather than tests.
- 50 large-format A4 pages
- CBT-inspired reflection wording
- Printed book and separate eBook
- Suitable for personal and supported use where appropriate
03 · Practical guidance
Plan for inclusion, time and follow-up
Not every student enjoys colouring or finds detailed patterns calming. Provide an equivalent alternative and consider visual, motor, sensory, literacy and concentration needs. A page can be enlarged, simplified by focusing on one section or paired with another quiet task where appropriate.
If a prompt raises a concern, follow the school’s normal procedures rather than treating the page as an assessment tool. The activity should sit within the school’s broader wellbeing, guidance, AEN and student-support structures.

Questions answered
Frequently asked questions.
These answers describe the resource accurately and avoid promises that a colouring book cannot make.
Is EZ Wellbeing an official NCCA resource?
No. It is an independently produced colouring resource. Teachers and schools must decide whether and how it supports their own planning and current curriculum requirements.
Does one page count as a complete SPHE lesson?
No. A page can form one activity within teacher-planned learning, but it does not provide the full learning intention, facilitation, differentiation, assessment or follow-up.
Can the eBook be printed for a whole class?
The permitted number of copies depends on the purchased licence. Schools should contact EZ Wellbeing about class, year-group or organisation use rather than assuming a personal licence is sufficient.
Is the resource suitable for every student?
No single activity is. Teachers should preview content, offer alternatives and make reasonable adaptations based on the students they teach.
Important support information
A colouring book is not crisis or clinical support.
Talk to a GP or qualified mental health professional when distress is persistent, worsening or affecting daily life.
