Workplace Wellbeing Colouring Resource

A screen-free workplace wellbeing colouring resource for optional quiet breaks, staff wellbeing events and organisation orders.

Optional Staff Wellbeing Activity

A workplace wellbeing colouring resource for a genuine change of pace.

A paper-based colouring activity can offer staff a simple alternative to another screen, survey or presentation. It works best as an optional resource within a credible wellbeing approach—not as a substitute for manageable workloads, supportive management or access to professional help.

Clear answer

How might an organisation use the resource?

Possible uses include an optional quiet table at a wellbeing event, individual books for staff, a screen-free break activity or selected pages within a facilitated session. Participation and personal reflection should be voluntary, and no artwork or response should be used to assess performance or health.

Why people choose it

A practical resource with room for individual choice.

01

Low setup

A book or authorised printed page and colouring pencils are enough to begin the activity.

02

Non-digital

Staff can step away from notifications and use a physical task for a defined period.

03

Inclusive choice

The resource can sit beside other quiet options instead of being presented as the one correct way to unwind.

01 · Practical guidance

Do not use wellbeing activity to disguise workplace problems

Colouring may provide a pleasant break, but it cannot compensate for unsafe conditions, excessive workload, bullying, lack of control or poor organisational practice. Staff are unlikely to trust a wellbeing initiative that asks them to self-soothe while obvious workplace causes of stress remain ignored.

Use the resource as an extra choice within a wider commitment to wellbeing. Be clear about what the activity can and cannot do, and maintain appropriate channels for feedback, occupational health, employee assistance or other support.

  • Keep participation voluntary
  • Avoid collecting personal reflections
  • Offer the activity during paid time where appropriate
  • Address organisational causes of stress separately

02 · Practical guidance

Set up a respectful staff wellbeing session

Provide a quiet area, enough materials and a clear time window. Explain that staff may colour, choose another activity or simply take a break. If prompts are discussed, keep conversation general and do not ask people to disclose mental health information in front of colleagues.

Consider accessibility, remote workers, different schedules and people who do not enjoy detailed visual tasks. Individual books can be offered without requiring proof of use, while an authorised digital arrangement may suit a facilitated on-site session.

03 · Practical guidance

Protect privacy and psychological safety

A completed page is not evidence about an employee’s wellbeing, attitude or resilience. Managers should not interpret colours, monitor participation or ask staff to submit reflections. These practices turn a low-pressure activity into surveillance and undermine its purpose.

If the activity leads someone to request support, respond through appropriate confidential routes. In a crisis, use emergency and professional services rather than relying on a wellbeing event or book.

A simple process

Plan an optional workplace activity

01

Define

Decide whether books are individual resources, event materials or part of a facilitated session.

02

Resource

Confirm quantities, licence, materials, accessible alternatives and a suitable quiet space.

03

Invite

Use neutral language and make clear that participation and discussion are voluntary.

04

Evaluate fairly

Ask about the activity itself without collecting health data or treating take-up as proof of programme success.

Questions answered

Frequently asked questions.

These answers describe the resource accurately and avoid promises that a colouring book cannot make.

Is this an employee assistance programme?

No. It is a creative wellbeing resource. It does not provide counselling, occupational health advice, risk management or crisis support.

Can managers require staff to participate?

The resource is designed as an optional activity. Requiring participation or personal reflection can create pressure and privacy concerns.

Can we order one book per employee?

Yes, organisations can request a quantity-based quote. Provide the expected number, location and required date for current pricing.

Can pages be used at a staff wellbeing day?

Potentially, subject to the purchased licence and responsible facilitation. Contact EZ Wellbeing with the expected participant number and print requirement.
